Pick up a sunflower lanyard from the Hub

We are part of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme for people with hidden disabilities. Not all disabilities can be seen, so the scheme offers people with conditions such as autism, dementia or sensory impairment a way to be discreetly identifiable, just by wearing the lanyards.

Events

Relaxed SENDays

We run ‘relaxed’ SENDays on various dates throughout the year for disabled visitors and their families.

We heavily restrict ticket availability on these days, so our galleries will be much less busy than usual.

We want these days to work around you! Which is why – although we do ask you to select an arrival time – we are flexible if you happen to get here a little earlier or later than your slot.

Upcoming Relaxed SENDay: Sunday 8th December. Read more.

Resources

We know that many visitors with autism and other sensory conditions find it beneficial to prepare for their visit and have prior insight into the sensory input involved in a visit to Eureka!, that’s why we’ve created the Eureka! Story– a practical guide for parents, teachers and children to read before visiting.

Don't just take it from us ...

Some lovely feedback from our visitors too!

“We had a wonderful day at Eureka! with our autistic boy. The facility was incredibly accommodating and accessible, making it easy for us to navigate the day without any stress. The staff, went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. Their customer service over the phone was fantastic too, providing lots of helpful information before our visit. Overall, it was a memorable day – highly recommend for families!

“A lot of thought has gone into making this an immersive sensory experience, nothing was really out of bounds for touching or climbing. A lot of doors to open, buttons to press, levers to turn, touch screens, hands on games and activities absolutely essential for all children, but in particular those with SEN, so this felt really inclusive.”

“My son was mid meltdown after being so overwhelmed with everything going on. I was at the point of leaving when a fabulous member of staff come and asked if we would like to use the chill room … We were taken to a room to ourselves where the lights were dimmed the noise was lowered and we had space to lay down with weighted blankets and given half an hour to just chill. After around 15 minutes we were able to return to the normal activities after having some much-needed chill time. Absolutely fantastic!”
