BLOG: Hedgehog Weekender

Roll into Eureka! Science + Discovery on the weekend of 11 and 12 May as we celebrate our spiky little garden pals during Hedgehog Awareness Weekend!

Eureka! Science + Discovery is proud to host a weekend dedicated to all things hedgehog. While no actual hedgehogs will be present at this event (they’re not big fans of crowds!), we’ve pulled together an exciting line-up of presentations and workshops to educate and inspire families on how to protect these adorable leaf dwellers. Greer Lacey from Jackson’s Animal Rescue and Lyndon Howson, a dedicated zoologist specializing in native species, particularly hedgehogs, will lead the event.

Jackson’s Animal Rescue, formerly known as Wirral Animal Sanctuary, is at the forefront of hedgehog rescue and conservation efforts. Greer Lacey, a trustee of the charity, has been instrumental in raising awareness about hedgehog care and habitat preservation. Founded in 2020, Jackson’s Animal Rescue took over the site of a previous animal charity near Mold and expanded its operations to cover North Wales. Greer’s dedication to hedgehog welfare has earned her recognition across Wirral, Cheshire, and North Wales.

Lyndon Howson, with his extensive experience in zoology and passion for native species conservation, brings invaluable expertise to the event. His work with Hedgehog Friendly Campus and the Mammal Champion Award from the Mammal Society underscores his commitment to safeguarding hedgehog populations. His tireless efforts extend beyond such projects, where he actively engages with the public, reaching over 4000 individuals with valuable information and awareness about hedgehog conservation.
